Collaboration

We are building this website for Montereyans and Montereyans-at-heart. We want it to be a living thing, its growth nurtured by our readers’ own discoveries, opinions, and imaginations.

If you enjoy writing...and if you have the soul of an artist, poet, essayist, historian, curator, story-teller, or playwright who finds a muse in Monterey and wish to share your creativity with our community, please read again our stated goal. Consider it a mission statement, if you like:

“…we aim to create a Collection that evokes the character, the traditions, the feel of Monterey as it existed in its golden age of historical importance and artistic discovery."

This effort is about a bygone era and the moods it evokes in us today. When our readers leave our quiet room feeling nostalgic for places and times they cannot have experienced, we know we have done our job. After all,

“…who among us has not longed to visit olden times and experience events that exist only on the pages of old history books, and explore them with all of our senses?”

Psyche, in “A Mural Lost in Time,” (included in The Collection)

Wills and Won'ts

We will accept only original work. We can't reimburse you for it: please think of your effort as a gift to Monterey. We will recognize you with appropriate attribution.

We must offer our readers respectful language, thoughtfully considered opinions, imaginative art critiques, and wholesome stories.

We will not burden them with cluttered pages, cumbersome navigation, sales pitches, perplexing connectivity, irritating blogs, or (may the gods of creativity help us) emoticons or Artificial Intelligence—in short, the vexations pressed upon us by modern communication technology. We are decidedly low tech and will remain so.

This is an ad-free website. Let’s leave commerce out of it. We won’t ask for, nor will we accept, donations.

So…if you wish to share a creative effort of your own, send us an email including your name and phone number. If we publish your work we will credit you appropriately (and thankfully) by name and home town only: our readers should know the names of those who support our community. We won't print your phone number, e-mail address or other personal information.

Please send your poetry, essay, story, or other original creative endeavors as attachments. If your contribution includes a specific early painting or other work of art representing early Monterey, we may be able to help you find a copy suitable for exhibiting here.

By contributing, you authorize us to add your work to this website. We will not own your work, it belongs to you. You will be sharing it with like-minded creative people. You may ask us to remove it at any time.

You may e-mail us at: somewhereinmonterey@hotmail.com

Serious submissions only, please. This is an ad-free, sales-free site. We will not respond to merchandising requests or other matters unrelated to our mission.
